Driving in Tijuana

Driving in Tijuana can be chaotic just like in many large U.S. cities, but foreign surroundings can make it more intimidating.  You will be following MCM staff while going to and from work sites.

  • Directions for getting to Mexico Caravan Ministries.
  • The most important technique is confident, but defensive, driving.  Do not hesitate after entering intersections.
  • Purchase insurance BEFORE you enter Mexico.  Contact Us for recommendations.  In the case of an accident, insist on showing proof of insurance.
  • Follow posted speed limits.  If in doubt, drive slightly slower than the flow of traffic in order to avoid interactions with police.
  • Be aware of the many road hazards.  Roads are neither built nor kept up to American specifications.  Be aware of large potholes, broken pavements, and uneven roads.
  • Yellow means STOP.  Do not attempt to rush through intersections on yellow lights, as they are very short and cross-traffic may begin before you are able to clear an intersection.
  • Watch for pedestrians.  Generally speaking, there are many more people on the streets than we in the U.S. are used to.
