Packing List

We’re glad you’re going to be working with us sometime soon. Here are some suggestions to help you prepare and pack. Remember – it’s dusty and your space is limited! If you need more info, please talk to your team leader.

Packing List – Personal Items

  • Bible, note-taking materials, letter-writing materials.
  • Camera (still, video, digital) and film.
  • Identification - Everyone will need photo identification (and copies of birth certificates) to return to the U.S. Beginning in 2008 U.S. citizens will be required to have passports. Non-U.S. citizens need an appropriate visa and / or passport to return to the U.S.
  • Medications - Prescriptions and / or others that you take, Tylenol or aspirin, Imodium or Pepto.
  • Money - You may want some cash for small purchases in Mexico. The peso is the currency of Mexico, but dollars are accepted everywhere. Bring small bills since the stores don't have much change in dollars. You cannot use credit/debit cards, personal checks or traveler’s checks in the areas where you will be living and working, but there are ATM machines close by to withdraw cash if needed.
  • Toothbrush / toothpaste, deodorant, chap-stick, sun-screen, towel, washcloth, soap.
  • Sleeping bag and pillow
  • Tools - We have tools for you to use, so don't feel you need to bring your own. Please do not bring power tools – we will not allow them to be used on the work-site.
  • Water Bottle

Packing List – Clothes

  • No sloppy, wild, suggestive or tight clothing (no torn clothes)
  • No tank tops, sleeveless shirts, leggings, or anything low-cut
  • NO SHORTS (we must be sensitive to the culture).
  • No excessive jewelry or makeup.
  • Contacts are not recommended because of the dust.
  • No sandals or open toed shoes worn on worksite
Males/Females:
  • Work clothes – pants, t-shirts, work boots or tennis shoes (please no torn/stained clothing on the worksites)
  • Sleep wear (modest)
  • Light coat or sweatshirt (heavier coat in the winter).
  • Hat or head covering.
Climate:
It’s a lot like San Diego – moderate with the possibility of rain and cool evenings from November to April, and often hot from July through September. It can be very windy and dusty.

Do Not Bring…
