Great past few days...

So other than a dislocated shoulder (Logan), there haven't been any injuries on the worksites. That's a pretty incredible feat considering so many of us are novices with saws, hammers, and other things that can be potentially dangerous. So far, 6 different families have homes/additions that we've been blessed with building for them. There's been tears shed by the families we've built for. Even one of the dads couldn't hold back the tears when the house was finished by the end of the day. God Read More...

More orphans and houses

Another day at the orphanage and building a house. had a great day and all the students are doing good. One more day of building 2 houses for needy people tomorrow. Also heard from a man who has spent many years in Muslim countries. One of the best messages I have every heard down here. And I have been coming for 12 years. God is amazing.

We had a great day today. Built a house, laid 2 cement foundations, ate Mexican Chinese food, rode kiddy rides at a local carnival, finally got a tooth brush (Robert) , and had 5 stitches installed into a hand (Grant). Just another day at Caravan.

Thanks for your prayers, everyone is doing great.

Monday's work is done...

There was a lot that we did today at the worksites here in TJ. Our group is doing well and we were excited to hear from God's word this morning from Eddie Passmore. He taught out of Luke 24 about how Jesus wants us to be fully surrendered to His plans and faithful to carry them out. For lunch at our worksite, our team had tacos that would be worthy of opening up an entire restaurant for in Simi. These tacos would put Campos out of business! Each person on our team was given a plate of 4 hard Read More...

Yes, I know it''s day 5 but only blog 2. Life is busy in Mexico. We''ve had some really great experiences, but more amazing is what we are learning.
We are learning that tacos are very different and much more delicioso than in the US.
We are learning that eating too many of them can cause stomach problemos. (another team member was in bed today but was better when we returned).
We are leaning to go without showers for a day or sooooo.
We are learning a feRead More...

Sorry that this is the first blog but it has been a busy couple of days. We have just completed 2 days of building which means 4 houses have gone up and more importantly, 4 families have been blessed. God has been richly providing for us everyday from the amazingly cool weather to even more amazing families to love on and serve. Everything could not be going any smoother! We have been sharing the dorm with groups from Canada and South Dakota and they have been great. Tomorrow we build 2Read More...

gracias a Dios es viernes

That means TGIF. Except not really, because this week has been a great one and i dont think that any of us are ready to go just yet. Today we went to a local orphanage and brought them lunch. I found out yesterday that the orphanage wasnt just for orphans but for the abandoned as well. These kids were so loving and so open. They would just run up and hold our hands and want to be picked up. We bought pizzas and when they finally arrived there was a crazy rush to form an unorganized line. The Read More...

Hola from Tijuana, Mexico! It is about 10PM here and we are sitting in the common area of our dorm. Today we had a change of pace in our work. We poured two squares of concrete, that MCM shelters will be built on soon by other groups. It was a bit of a tedious process, but it was a good experience, and we had some fun with it. Afterwards, we came back and ate at a taco stand that was set up in the driveway of our dorm. Then we had a short meeting where a few staff members shared their testimoRead More...

We were building again in government housing, adding on an addition. We are not sure how many people were actually in the home (mother, father, & several kids...not sure how many!) We had several neighborhood kids helping today...I don't think we ever were able to get an accurate count. I (Donna) was particularly taken by Angel, a little boy that "helped" me for quite a while. We had once again a yummy lunch with much more food than we could eat. We were toldRead More...

Buenos Noches Heartland!

Today was a much better day in terms of where our work site was and the ground we worked on, but it was no less heartbreaking to see how the people of Tijuana live and in what they live. We worked for a lady who had two children living in Mexican government housing.

Government housing here in Mexico is much different then that of the states. It is the most basic of shelters made of concrete cinder blocks with a Styrofoam roof covered in plaster Read More...

we built an entire custom made house!!!......after waking up we had our devotion time and a short(ish) worship service and sermon. after the sermon we headed out to our worksite and met the family for whom we would be building the house for. the womans name was Blanca and she has seven children. the house was a 16x8 house. after a grueling time moving all of our supplies down a steep hill and a stairway made of tires and dirt we began the process of building the house. we were there about 8 Read More...
