Buenos Noches Heartland!
Today was a much better day in terms of where our work site was and the ground we worked on, but it was no less heartbreaking to see how the people of Tijuana live and in what they live. We worked for a lady who had two children living in Mexican government housing.
Government housing here in Mexico is much different then that of the states. It is the most basic of shelters made of concrete cinder blocks with a Styrofoam roof covered in plaster no more than 350-400 square feet, made for families of 4 to 5 persons.
MCM ministries deemed that this lady needed more room, so we built "an addition" to her house for her. It was another awesome experience, the build went faster, everyone worked hard and we all felt great about what we had accomplished.
They lady we built for made us a lunch called "mole" (that's pronounced mow-lay, not mole). Mole is a spicy chicken dish with a chocolate sauce. Yes, that's right a chocolate sauce! It actually tasted more like a gravy than anything. She also made us some delicious rice.
Today was the first day we showered since Sunday morning. PRAISE GOD FOR THAT! It was starting to get a little funky. I can't speak for the ladies, but the mens' dorm is smelling great! The bathhouse we showered at was basically a place full of closet-like showers it was also an interesting experience.
God has really blessed us while being down here. I have felt an amazing calm since we landed in San Diego, not once have I ever been fearful of anyone or anything. God is at work here through us, through MCM and through the people of Tijuana.
God Bless,
